The Science
How GLP-1 medications trigger hair changes — and how Shedless was engineered to address them.
The hidden cost of rapid weight loss
GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound are remarkable. They make sustained weight loss achievable for millions. But they also do something rarely discussed: they put your hair into crisis.
About 55% of GLP-1 patients report hair thinning or texture changes during their journey. Shedding typically begins 2–4 months after starting the medication. It is not a side effect of the drug. It is what the drug enables — rapid weight loss — and that comes with a metabolic cost your follicles feel first.
This has a name. Telogen effluvium.
Hair grows in cycles. At any given moment, about 85% of your follicles are in the active growth phase (anagen) and the rest are resting (telogen). Major metabolic stressors — rapid weight loss being one of the most common — push an unusual share of follicles into the resting phase all at once. Two to four months later, all those resting hairs shed together.
Telogen effluvium is fully reversible with the right multi-target support. The follicles are not damaged. They are stressed.
Six root causes. One formula.
Shedless addresses the multiple pressure points GLP-1 medications create — not just one. The Numi Complex combines six clinically-studied botanicals that target the major drivers of hair thinning:
1. Stress & Cortisol → Ashwagandha Extract
Major body changes spike cortisol, which can shift more follicles into the resting phase ahead of schedule. Standardized ashwagandha extract has been shown in placebo-controlled trials to reduce serum cortisol and perceived stress.
2. Hormonal Shift → Saw Palmetto
Weight loss alters estrogen, thyroid, and DHT signaling — all of which directly regulate the hair growth cycle. Saw Palmetto supports healthy DHT levels, which are particularly relevant in genetic and stress-induced hair thinning patterns.
3. Nutrient Depletion → Marine Collagen Peptides
GLP-1s reduce appetite for protein. Marine collagen peptides supply the amino acid building blocks for keratin — the protein your follicles use to construct strong, anchored hair shafts.
4. Oxidative Stress → Tocotrienol Complex
The high-potency vitamin E family. In a 2010 placebo-controlled trial published in Tropical Life Sciences Research, tocotrienol supplementation increased hair count by 34.5% over 8 months compared to placebo. Antioxidant support for the follicle environment.
5. Inflammation → Curcumin
The active phytonutrient in turmeric. Chronic low-grade inflammation in the scalp drives miniaturization of follicles. Curcumin is one of the most well-studied anti-inflammatory botanicals.
6. Aging & Hydration → Hyaluronic Acid
Sodium hyaluronate provides hydration support for skin and scalp — the foundational environment your hair grows in. Particularly relevant as the body shifts during weight transition.
Plus the essentials
Around the Numi Complex, Shedless includes therapeutic doses of every essential vitamin and mineral implicated in hair health: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Biotin, Selenium, Iodine, Zinc, L-Lysine, Resveratrol, Astaxanthin, Black Pepper Extract, Horsetail (Silica), L-Cystine, Capsaicin.
Every batch is third-party tested for potency and contaminants. Manufactured in a GMP-certified, FDA-registered US facility.
The clinical evidence
The individual ingredients in Shedless are supported by published clinical research. The most-cited studies:
- Ashwagandha for cortisol reduction (Auddy et al., JANA, 2008).
- Tocotrienol for hair growth (Beoy et al., Tropical Life Sciences Research, 2010).
- Saw Palmetto for androgen-mediated thinning (Prager et al., Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine, 2002).
- Curcumin anti-inflammatory effects (multiple).
Individual results vary. Hair growth is a slow biological process — most customers see meaningful change at 90 days with consistent daily use.
Built for the GLP-1 era
Numi exists to support the body changes that come with modern weight-loss medications. Shedless is our first product, formulated to provide multi-target hair support during the unique nutritional and hormonal pressures of GLP-1 therapy.
